Terschelling
On September 19 we are getting married in Terschelling.
We celebrate life, we celebrate love. No time to waste.
A small number of family members and friends come here and it will be an intimate big-small party. We expect most Norwegians to come on Thursday and stay until Sunday. Everything is possible.
Friday afternoon we get married, we eat and drink and dance. Saturday may be fun to enjoy the island, drive around on a tandem, swim in the sea, learn some Dutch/Norwegian, drink another beer at Heartbreak Hotel, run around the Regions. We'll see, we'll make a plan.
What we know for sure is that we love it when you come.
And what we know for sure is that your arrival is the only gift we would like to receive from you.
Love and see you on Terschelling!
Cathrine and Ronald
Ceremony: 16:00 at Zand Zee Bar
Dress Code
There is no dress code. Hopefully, we’ll be getting married barefoot on the beach. High heels won’t work. A tie is a bit too formal. Light, sunny, festive – that would be nice.
Also, be prepared for September in the Netherlands. It can be beautiful, it can rain and be windy, and everything in between. If the weather is nice on the day, we might eat outside, and it will likely get chilly, so even if it’s sunny, bring a sweater.
Speeches
Norwegians are the masters of speeches. So there will definitely be some. During dinner, between courses – that’s possible. There aren’t many courses, so not many speeches 😊. If you’d like to say something, please contact the toastmaster, Mikkel: brandt.bugge@gmail.com
Food
There will be meat, fish, and neither meat nor fish – vegetarian, indeed. If you have any other dietary wishes or needs, please let us know in time so we can pass it on.
Bicycles
You can reserve bikes through Tijs Knop. Online reservations get a 10% discount.
Tijs Knop | Tijs Knop is the link, and it’s only in Dutch, which might be tricky. If you need help with the reservation or want us to do it for you, just let us know. Please reserve at least a week before your visit!
Tijs Knop is located at the beginning of Torenstraat in West Terschelling. When you get off the boat, you’ll almost walk right into it; it’s blue in color. The bikes will be ready upon arrival. They’ll transport your luggage to your accommodation for free. Alternatively, you can have the bike delivered to your accommodation and travel there yourself with your luggage by car or bus. That also works well, but you won’t get the discount.
Terschelling, how to get there?
This is especially for our Norwegian guests; our Dutch friends all know how trains and boats work in the Netherlands. Transportation on the island follows later; we would love it if we could all go to and from the wedding location by bike/tandem together :) Weather is an important variable, and we will have a backup plan.
From Schiphol.

The train is the obvious choice. It takes you in 2.5 to 3 hours to Harlingen-Haven. Check the times on www.ns.nl, available in English. You can order e-tickets on the site.
You can see where you need to transfer, which platform you will arrive at, and where the next train will depart from, how much time you have. It's like the Dutch version of Ruter. -
What follows is a beautiful journey over the Wadden Sea. If you're lucky, it's low tide, and you'll sail through a narrow channel of water right before Terschelling. If the weather is nice and you have the time, take the 'regular' boat and enjoy a piece of world heritage on deck. Absolutely unique.
You can book tickets for the boat at www.doeksen.nl. At the very bottom of the page, you can choose English. Note that there is a fast service and a regular service—on the fast service, it's like traveling from Nesoddtangen to Aker Brygge.
Book the tickets; the chance that 'your' boat will be full is not big, but it absolutely happens, and you'll be left surprised... -
When the boat arrives, buses will be waiting, and you’ll be facing bike rental shops. The choice is yours. Know that you need to go to Hoorn and get off at:
-
De Groene Weide (world-famous music café). We are 2 or 3 houses further (the Stipe / De Perentuin, Dorpsstraat 87 in Hoorn).
-
Or, if you're at Graceland (Dorpsstraat 5, Hoorn): busstop Klein Lies.
The distance from the boat is exactly 10 kilometers. The direction is very easy.
If you take the bus, you can pay with your bank card. Luggage can come along. Easy.
If you rent a bike, you don't need to worry about luggage. Every bike rental place here will transport your luggage to the correct address for free.

Ronalds relationship with Terschelling
I was 4 (or almost) when I first came to Terschelling. Vacation! Super exciting. Then for 10 years, I spent 3 weeks there each year, always in the same apartment (and after that, I spent many years camping in Denmark, Sweden, and especially Norway...).
Since then, I've been to this beautiful island many times. I remember being here when I turned 9 and also when I turned 40. I've seen all the places, eaten at many of them, swum, looked at the stars...
Terschelling is an important part of my life, and it’s one of the most beautiful places I know. I quickly took Cathrine here, and she fell just as in love with this island as I did. Knowing that a Norwegian doesn’t often end up on Terschelling, that we want to celebrate love together with you in a special way, and do so in a place that truly has meaning made the decision very easy.

You'll find the places pointer out at the map above.
-
Take the bike:
-
Ride to de Streken and be amazed.
-
Ride along the dike towards de Wierschuur, and then onto the Boschplaat to the bike rack (end of the bike path, about 3 kilometers from the Streken). Park your bike and walk across the dune.
-
Swim, dance, walk... A beautiful walk with your feet in the water leads eastward to the wreckers' house. Don't forget to walk up the dune and look over that beautiful Boschplaat.
-
Ride to Heartbreak Hotel and enjoy the beer/cake/water that you’ve earned.
-
-
Little time? Ride to Kaap Hoorn, walk up the dune, walk back, have a drink, and ride back.
-
A bit more time? Walk through the dunes from Hoorn, along the forest, towards the beach. At Kaap Hoorn, walk back over the dune. You can return via the beach road or through the forest.
-
Want a terrace or shop? Ride to Midsland or West. Choose your route carefully: Make sure you have the wind at your back on the dike, and along the forest, it can be against you. There’s only one dike, and along the forest: From the main road, 100 meters north, bike path...
-
More time? Beautiful bike paths through the dunes. Check Google Maps; it’s all beautiful. West aan Zee has a lovely beach bar. And the Walvis at West has the best view towards Vlieland.
-
Hungry? In the middle of the island, you’ll find the Rustende Jager in Formerum. Simple food, always good, and very cozy.
-
Island specialty: Anything with cranberries.
